Nigeria actor Femi Adebayo’s celebration of International Beer Day sparked controversy and backlash from some members of the Muslim community.
Recalls that, Femi Adebayo took to social media to celebrate International Beer Day, an annual event dedicated to enjoying and appreciating the world’s alcoholic beverage.
Sharing a photo of himself holding a bottle of Torphy beer, Femi Adebayo who is an ambassador to Torphy Lagar beer captioned the post, “Happy International Beer Day from Trophy, #honorablewagbayi #trophylagerbeer #youdeservearefreshingtrophy.”
Shortly after Femi Adebayo shared the post on social media, comments from offended Muslims flooded his page, criticizing him for promoting a substance considered haram
(forbidden) in Islam. They argued that alcohol consumption goes against the teachings of the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) hadiths.
Many expressed their disapproval and disappointment with the actor’s post, citing their religious beliefs that alcohol is forbidden in Islam.
